Preparing for IMO's Cyber Security Regulations
The IMO has called for companies to address cyber risk in their systems by January 1st, 2021
The maritime community is undergoing a significant digital transformation. It is becoming increasingly connected through technology and vessel operators are more dependent on digital solutions for optimisation of operations.
But any system that is digitally enabled is vulnerable to cyberattacks. Cybersecurity is key to ensuring safe operation of vessels and safeguarding people, cargo and the environment.
The IMO agreed that the following process should be applied in cyber risk management:
Our Cybersecurity Awareness course allows companies to execute their cybersecurity training. This course provides learners with an introduction to cybersecurity and cyber risks, and demonstrates how, by improving personal awareness of cyber risks, they can improve cybersecurity overall.

- Describe the term cybersecurity and recognise how cybersecurity starts with “you”
- Explain the threat of cybercrime and the possible outcomes of an attack
- Describe cybersecurity laws and regulations
- Describe possible cyber threats
- Describe best practices to reduce cyber risk
